ROCHESTER - A pedestrian walking along Rochester Hill Road near Profile Apartments was struck by a tractor-trailer and seriously injured today.

The accident occurred around 6:15 a.m. when police say the tractor-trailer was traveling north on Rochester Hill Road when the pedestrian stepped into the travel portion of the roadway.

When responders first arrived they found the tractor-trailer pulled off on the northbound side of the road. About 20 feet past the tractor-trailer unit they found the man lying on the pavement in the northbound lane of travel.

The victim, who has not been identified, was flown by DHART helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Route 108 was shut down to traffic for a short time, but has since been reopened. Rochester Police were assisted on scene by New Hampshire State Police Troop G (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement).

Police say there are no charges pending against the driver, and neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors, however the accident is still under investigation.
