NORTH HAMPTON - Police Officer Peter J. Cormier, 46, of Eliot, Maine, formerly of Dover, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Officer Cormier was a 22-year law enforcement professional and has served the last 18 years as a dedicated member of the North Hampton Police Department.
He was born Nov. 18, 1968 in Waltham, Mass., a son of Geraldine (Maker) Defeo of Dover and the late Clifford J. Cormier.
Peter was a graduate of Spaulding High School in Rochester with the Class of 1987. He served as an MP in the Army from 1987-1990 and with the Air Force National Guard at Pease retiring in 2009 as Master Sergeant with a total of 22 years of service. During his time with the Air National Guard he was deployed to Saudi Arabia, Spain and Italy as well as during Hurricane Katrina.
Officer Cormier was a graduate of the 101st Class of the N.H. Police Academy in 1993 and began his career in law enforcement with the Newington Police Department. He joined the North Hampton Department in 1997 where he has served to the present time. He has served the North Hampton Department as a detective, field training officer, firearms instructor, and as a motor officer with the motorcycle unit. He was one of the original members of the Seacoast Emergency Response Team and most recently he proudly held the post of Sniper Team Leader.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycle riding and taking his family to Disney World.
In addition to his mother, he leaves the love of his life, Shelby C. (Fontaine) Cormier of Eliot, his 17 month old twin children, Brooklyn and Logan who meant the world to him, brothers James Cormier and wife Wendi of Rochester, Douglas Cormier and wife Aimee of Merrimack, sisters Jennifer Cormier and wife Michelle Piette-Cormier of Leominster, Mass., Kristina Cormier of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., stepbrothers Richard, Robert and Shawn Siede, stepsister Kim Siede, his in laws Nancy and Robert Fontaine of Eliot, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his second family, the North Hampton Police Department.

ARRANGEMENTS - A walk-thru for law enforcement will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Public visiting hours will follow on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2015 from the funeral home for immediate family and close friends to begin gathering for a private prayer service. Public graveside services will be held at 12 noon at St. Mary Cemetery, Route 16, Dover Point Road, Dover. All are respectfully invited and requested to meet at the cemetery. Family flowers only.
