Pilot's landing at golf course was above par

PARSONSFIELD, Maine - A small single-engine plane made an emergency landing safely today at the Province Lake Golf Club in Parsonsfield, Maine, after torrential rain and fog prompted the pilot to touch down.

The pilot, Gary Soucy, 66, of Brewer, landed his 1965 Piper Cherokee 140 on the second hole of the golf course around 7:50 a.m.

Soucy departed the Waterville Airport earlier this morning en route to Oshkosh, Wis., to participate in a plane enthusiast event.

Soucy was alone in the aircraft and was not injured, and the plane suffered no apparent damage, officials said.

The FAA was notified and will inspect the aircraft before it can be removed from the golf course. The plane was pushed to the side so the golf course will remain open.

Deputy Darren Cyr, the deputy on the scene, said Soucy's skill as a pilot resulted in a safe landing. Cyr will continue to coordinate his investigation with the FAA.
