ROCHESTER - Shaylah Gates has been working in restaurants since she was 14, but two years ago she decided she wanted to specialize in baking, and folks are glad she did.

Formerly of Wells, Maine, Gates recently bought the former Hebert's Barbershop building on Milton Road where she is living and hopes to open a full-service bakery next year.

Gates with her helper, Emerson Waning, were pulling double duty on Tuesday as they set up shop at the Rochester Farmers Market at the Commons and the Night Before the Fourth celebration at the Rochester Community Center.

Gates' bright, colorful, innovative and tasty confections dazzle the eyes and the taste buds.

She honed her craft getting a culinary degree at Washington County Community College in Calais, Maine.

"I wanted to get as far away as I could," she quipped while watching over her stall at the Farmers Market.

Gates said she'd like to serve coffee and have a couple of tables inside and on a patio when she opens her bakery next year.

For now, she sells her yummy treats at Farmers Markets and out of her home.

You can order through her Two Wrongs make a Right Bakery Facebook page or call her at 603.609.8524.
