Police arrest five in Sanford heroin sting

SANFORD - Five Sanford residents were arrested in a heroin sting on Tuesday following a two-month undercover investigation into trafficking and possession of the drug in the Sanford region.

The probe was carried out by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Sanford Police, who made undercover buys at a 7 North Main St. residence.

Arrested were:

Derek A. Gerrish, 25, of Sanford, on two counts of Unlawful Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin), a Class B felony. Bail was set at $20,000 cash.

Cynthia Powers, 49, of Sanford, on two counts of Unlawful Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin), Class B. Bail was set at $20,000 cash.

Donald Nordmann, 48, of Sanford, on one count of Unlawful Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin), Class B. Bail was set at $20,000 cash.

Erika Gerrish, 26, of Sanford, Unlawful Possession of Schedule W Drugs (Heroin), a Class C felony. Bail was set at $5,000 cash.

Michael Gerrish, 46, of Sanford, on Unlawful Possession of Schedule W Drugs (Heroin), also Class C. Bail was set at $5,000 cash.

A police release today said undercover buys were made from Derrick Gerrish, Cynthia Powers and Donald Nordmann prior to the bust.

Lawmen on Tuesday around 5 p.m. conducted a search of the North Main Street home, where Derek Gerrish, Powers and Nordmann were taken into custody on arrest warrants. Erika Gerrish and Michael Gerrish were also arrested after both were found to be in possession of heroin. All five live at the North Main Street residence.

Police seized approximately 19 grams of heroin, scales, packing materials and drug ledgers. The street value of the seized heroin is about $4,000.

Michael Gerrish is the uncle to Derek and Erika, who are brother and sister, the release noted.

All five were transported to the York County Jail by deputies of the York County Sheriffs' Department. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
