ROCHESTER - Rochester Police are hoping the recent arrest of a Rochester man trying to fence stolen surveying equipment in Hooksett will lead them to who originally stole the items from a Franklin Street construction site back in September.

Matthew Kane, 34, of 47 Tonka St., was arrested on Monday on a receiving stolen property charge after Hooksett Police say he tried to sell $10,000 worth of stolen equipment at Eastpoint Lasers, a Hooksett surveying equipment store.

Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said on Wednesday that the equipment was stolen on Sept. 4 from a Franklin Street construction site.

Meanwhile, Kane, who has had a string of arrests by Rochester Police, had arrest warrants filed on Monday for allegedly stealing Bose and JBL speakers from the Rochester Walmart last Feb. 12.

Thomas said Kane fled the store's Loss Prevention Office to avoid arrest.

Thomas said the charge against Kane was a Class B felony because he had prior convictions for willful concealment charges.

Kane was charged by Hooksett Police with receiving stolen property and drug possession after he was found to be in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine during his arrest. He was also charged with giving a false name to law enforcement.

Kane has had a string of arrests by Rochester Police in recent years, the most recent coming on Aug. 14 for willful concealment, theft and resisting arrest.
