ROCHESTER - Police are on the lookout for a pair of suspects they say appear to have been draining a New Durham, N.H., veteran's checking account after allegedly stealing his checks, forging his name and cashing them at a city bank.

The veteran who was victimized reported the theft of checks and money on March 29, prompting an investigation.

According to Rochester Police Capt. Gary Boudreau, several checks in varying amounts have been cashed at the same Rochester bank between January and when the theft came to light late last month.

Boudreau said the bank is cooperating in the investigation.

The total amount of money drawn from the account appears to be less than $1,000, which would put the amount at a misdemeanor level, but the crime of forgery is a felony-level offense, which could draw a stay in state prison if convicted.
