GONIC - A distracted driver is being blamed for rear-ending another vehicle in a Gonic Road crash that sent two to the hospital.

The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. near the Dunkin' Donuts when police say Theresa Gray, 47, of Rochester, was driving a Nissan Versa southbound and stopped to make a left turn into Superior Auto Sales and Service.

At the same time Brian Bennett, 51 of Farmington, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound when he became distracted by his cell phone's ringing and looked at his phone. The Chevrolet then crashed into the Nissan, pushing it into the dealership parking lot.

Theresa Gray and her passenger were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries. Bennett was not transported.

Both vehicles had to be removed by wreckers due to the extent of the damage.

Traffic was down to one lane for about 30 minutes during the investigation, which is still ongoing.

Anyone having any information pertaining to this collision is asked to contact Ofc. Moore at 330-7128.
