Police say medical event may have led to fatal crash

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - A South Berwick man died Saturday after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree near 60 Knights Pond Road.

South Berwick Police identified the victim as Brian G. Day, 56, of 326 Emery's Bridge Road on Sunday.

Police said they were investigating the possibility Day had a medical event just prior to when his Jeep crossed the center line shortly after noon, left the road and struck a tree.

Day, who was the sole occupant inside the vehicle, was transported to Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H., where he died.

An autopsy will be performed by the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's Office next week, according to South Berwick police.

Knights Pond Road was partially closed for more than two hours following the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is being asked to call the South Berwick Police Department at 384-2254.
