ROCHESTER - Rochester Police are warning the public about a potential scam regarding individuals seeking to do water testing at private residences, but who may be there just casing the joint.

Last Wednesday the department was notified by a resident they had been contacted by a company which stated they were coming to test their water and showed up at the residence.

Meanwhile, on Monday the city's Public Works Department notified the Police Department they had received three such calls from residents stating a company had called them about checking their water.

Rochester Police want city residents to know the Public Works Department does not do water testing at private residences.

They say that if someone calls you requesting to do so, it is not the city.

"Often times thieves pose as service workers in the area offering home services in an attempt to see if residents are home to target houses for thefts," a Rochester Police press release noted.
