Public to weigh in whether Keno's a good bet for Rochester

ROCHESTER - The public will get a chance on Tuesday to chime in with their thoughts on whether Rochester should allow Keno gambling in the city to help pay for public school kindergarten.
A public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
The city is seeking input from citizens as officials ponder whether to craft a referendum that would go to a vote on Nov. 7.
With the passage of SB 191, cities and towns across New Hampshire are given the right to allow Keno gambling with all profits from the game deposited in the education trust fund in order to provide grants to kindergarten students.
Keno gambling has been allowed in Massachusetts for more than 20 years. Connecticut joined in last August.
The Keno system draws 20 numbers from a field of 80 numbers every four minutes.
Players select from 1 to 12 numbers or "spots" for each game. A computer then randomly chooses 20 winning numbers from 1 to 80 and displays them on a Keno monitor.
Payouts can range from a few bucks to a $1 million.
