LEBANON, Maine - Raymond Edward Allen, 94, of Chick Road, died at his home on Monday, September 17, 2018. Born February 21, 1924 in Dover; the son of Deputy Chief Dewey and Marjorie (LeRochelle) Allen.
He was educated in the Dover (NH) School System, graduating in 1942 where he was the manager of the State Championship Basketball Team. He went on to attend the Wentworth Institute in Boston. After his first year he volunteered for induction in the Army. He served his country in World War II in the Pacific Theater. After his time in the war he returned to the Wentworth Institute and earned his degree in Patternmaking and Machine Design.
Ray was a member of the VFW, Post 752. He became a life member in 1979. He was also a member of the Dover American Legion, Post 8. He served as a Commander and Department Commander.
Ray entered the Apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval shipyard in the Pattern Shop. After 31 years of service he retired in 1980 as the Supervisor in the Planning and Estimating Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Flora M. (Trefethen) Allen of Lebanon and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
