ROCHESTER - Director of Recreation & Arena Chris Bowlen announced this week that Recreation Supervisor Art Jacobs has earned his license as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) by the National Certification Board and the National Recreation and Park Association.

CPRP certification is granted to individuals employed in the recreation, park resources and leisure services who meet the eligibility requirements, including a combination of higher education and/or work experience. Additionally, applicants must complete the national CPRP examination, which tests knowledge in all aspects of general administration, programming and operations management for parks and recreation.

As a CPRP, Jacobs meets high standards of expertise established in the field of park and recreation professionals. CPRP certifications are valid for two years, and professionals who wish to reapply are required to complete professional continuing education unit requirements or equivalent academic course work.

"Art has been involved in the recreation community in Rochester for over 30 years. Known by many as 'Coach Jacobs,' he has been a part of so many families and lives within Rochester that he is known by thousands of people, young and old," Bowlen said. "His dedication to the community is remarkable, and his recent accomplishment of becoming a Certified Park and Recreation Professional is a testament to his drive to better himself to serve the constituents of Rochester."

Over the years, Jacobs has created numerous programs that have become an integral part of the community. The Rochester Recreation's Youth Basketball League, Summer Camp, a Co-Ed Basketball League for those 30 years old and over, and Rochester Teen Night are some of the most popular offerings overseen by Jacobs.

In addition to these programs, Jacobs has brought together a steady group of active senior citizens through a variety of free classes that include cardio, strength fitness, yoga, art and dance lessons.

Jacobs is committed to providing programs that promote a healthy lifestyle and foster meaningful community connections. He credits his successes to surrounding himself with a talented and dedicated program staff.
