LEBANON - Richard L. Main, 70, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, Mass. Born May 29, 1947, in Waterville, Maine, he is the son of the late Bertram Sylvester Main, Sr., and Helen (Lander-Main) Couture. He was a resident of Lebanon, Maine for the past 23 years.
He graduated from Winslow High School, Winslow, Maine in 1966. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966, served overseas, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1970 at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, N.M. He remained a constant friend during his enlistment and throughout the years with Tom Reed of Salt Lake City, Utah and Okinawa.
Upon returning to Maine, he began a lifelong career in the retail industry where he held a variety of positions including assistant manager, manager and district manager for such companies of Mammoth Mart, Zayre, Ames, and eventually retiring from Marshalls, Portsmouth, N.H., in 2014. He loved his career, his associates, his colleagues and working for TJX Corp.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean A. Main (McCaslin); his daughter, Shannon and her husband, Timothy Olson, Sr., and three grandchildren, Timmy, Adam, and Amanda, of Cutler, Maine; his brother, Bertram Sylvester Main and wife Doris of Oakland, Maine and his sister Joan Bucknam also of Oakland, Maine; several nephews and their families; his brother-in-law, Daniel McCaslin and wife Betty reside in Winslow, Maine.
He was predeceased by his parents and his God-child and nephew, James Tyler Main.
He was a great supporter of his wife's ministry as a United Methodist Pastor and was very involved with both Bethany UMC of East Rochester, and recently of Crossroads UMC of Sanford, Maine.
His daughter, Shannon, graduated from the University of Maine, Machias in 2016, which was one of his most cherished memories.
