SANFORD - The lone gunman who robbed a Sanford convenience store on Sunday may have been injured when he was struck by a passing vehicle as he fled the scene, but police can't say for sure because he managed to continue to make his escape in a waiting car.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the Eastside Convenience store at 88 High Street.

Sanford Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout said the motorist who was driving the car that struck the suspect stopped and was later interviewed by police.

Strout said today that the suspect "continued to flee" after being hit. He then got into a Ford 4-door car occupied by possibly two other people, one being a female, and fled the area.

The suspect was wearing a Boston Bruins black and gold sweatshirt, jeans and an orange knit hat pulled over his face.

Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call the Sanford Police Department Criminal Investigation Division or the Sanford Police Tip-Line (207-324-3644 - follow prompts).
