ROCHESTER - Robert E. Spurling, 95, of Rochester died at Rochester Manor on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Born April 8, 1923 in Dover, the son of Delmore and Alixena Spurling.
Robert attended Spaulding High school after which he entered the Army during World War II and traveled all over Europe as a heavy equipment mechanic. He attained the rank of sergeant and was the recipient of several medals of which the Bronze star was one. After the war he returned to the Rochester area and was an automotive mechanic and owned his own garage business in Gonic. He loved working on anything with an engine in it. He loved country music and was always making recordings of all the old-time artists.
He was married to Gladys Spurling for 57 years until her death at the age of 101. Bob and Gladys spent many of their golden years retired in Florida before returning home to Rochester.
Robert was the oldest of six brothers and sisters; Norma Smith, Barbara Rennebu, Patricia Woodward, Donnie Spurling and Nancy Cramer.
Robert is survived by his son Gary Spurling and wife Sandra; step daughter Arlene Ciccotelli; step son Richard Munroe and wife Mary. He also had a step son Donald Munroe that preceded him. He had two granddaughters, Tammy Barrett and husband Daniel of Camp Hill Pa., and Jody McKenzie and husband Nathan of Berwick, Maine. He had three great-grandchildren, Addison and Kealey Barrett and Cortland Mckenzie.
