Rochester, Barrington women taken to hospitals after crash

GONIC - Two local women were injured in a two-car collision on Gonic Road on Tuesday.

The crash occurred around 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Gonic Road (Route 125) and Church Street when police say a green 1999 Saturn station wagon driven by Raymond Estes, 55, of Barrington, was traveling northbound on Gonic Road.

Police say as it approached the intersection a blue 2007 Honda CRV operated by Lonna Basham, 56, of Rochester, entered onto Gonic Road turning southbound into the path of oncoming Saturn.

Both operators were transported to local hospitals for what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Both operators were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
