DOVER, N.H. - A Rochester man has been indicted by a Strafford County grand jury in the choking of a woman during a domestic violence incident in Somersworth last year.

Douglas Small, 55, of 10 North Main St., is alleged in the indictment to have applied "pressure to the throat and neck area" and impeded the woman's breathing on Dec. 13.

Small is charged with second-degree assault, a Class B felony punishable by up to seven years in state prison and a $4,000 fine.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down on April 16 and released earlier this week.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been presented to warrant a trial.
