Sanford man arrested for alleged threats to biz, school

SOMERSWORTH - Local and federal lawmen have arrested a Sanford man alleged to have threatened shootings at a Somersworth business and an unnamed school.

Jose Cardenas, 22, of 22 Lenox St., Sanford, Maine, was arrested without incident on Friday and charged with two felony counts of criminal threatening.

Somersworth Police began their probe on Thursday after learning that a male subject had threatened to engage in a shooting at the Aclara Meters business located in the former GE building at 130 Main St. and also at a unspecified school.

The investigation was conducted by The Patrol and Investigations Division of The Somersworth Police Department with assistance from Sanford Police and the FBI's Bedford field office.

Cardenas refused bail and will be arraigned on Monday at Strafford County Superior Court.

Somersworth Police took the opportunity to assure the public they take all threats of violence seriously, and will investigate them to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors.
