SANFORD - A Sanford man is in serious condition at a Portland hospital after he was stabbed Wednesday night.
The victim has been identified as Austin Murphy, 22, of 54 Emery St.
Police say they responded to a call at the address for a disturbance and told that a man had been assaulted and stabbed.
When they arrived they found Murphy with a stab wound to the chest. He was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center for stabilization and then taken by Lifeflight of Maine to Maine Med in Portland.
The injury is considered serious, according to police, who say they have identified those involved in the incident and are now investigating the circumstance that led to the stabbing.
