Sanford man who died in car-bus crash identified

BERWICK, Maine - The Sanford man who died on Wednesday after his car was rear-ended and sent into the path of an oncoming school bus has been identified as 31-year-old Jeremiah Smith.

The accident occurred around 1:40 p.m. in the area of the intersection of Portland Street and Old Route 4.

According to Berwick police, a 42-year-old Sanford woman was driving a Toyota Rav 4 at the intersection of the two roadways when she rear-ended a Ford Fusion that was making a turn. The collision pushed the Ford Fusion into the path of a school bus driven by a 75-year-old man from Kittery.

Smith was pronounced dead at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.

There were no students on the bus.
