ALFRED, Maine - A Sanford man who formerly taught and coached at Berwick Academy will spend a month in jail for taking "upskirt" and cleavage videos of female students at the prestigious private school.

Brian Sanborn, 55, who taught chemistry and coached girls basketball at the South Berwick school, pleaded guilty to a single count of invasion of privacy in February.

He had originally been charged with 10 counts of invasion of privacy, but at sentencing only one was applied, 90 days in county jail with all but 30 days suspended.

Sanborn will have to get counseling, stay away from Berwick Academy staff and students, have no contact with children under 16 unless accompanied by an adult, possess no digital equipment like a smartphone that can take pictures and follow all other conditions imposed by the court in order to serve no more jail time than the 30 days.

Police say Sanborn used a small digital video camera to take the images, holding it in his hand while standing alongside female students, and pointing it under their skirts. Police also said he would take images of girls' cleavage while they did chemistry experiments in his classes.

He was dismissed from the school almost two years ago after it was reported he had been taking such videos for more than a year and arrested in May 2014.

Sanborn had also earlier in his career taught and coached at Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine.
