School bus driver hurt, monitor, 3 students transported in Sanford crash

SANFORD - A bus driver, monitor and three students were transported to a local hospital today after their bus crashed head-on into a tree on Main Street.

The crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. when Sanford Police say the bus on Main Street near the Mountain View Golf Range traveling north when it left the roadway striking the tree.

The bus was occupied by the operator, three students, one 5- and two 8-year-olds, and an adult bus monitor. The operator was transported to the Sanford Campus of Southern Maine Health Care for incapacitating injuries to the head and neck, while the students and monitor were also transported to SMHC for precautionary evaluation.

The bus sustained major damage to the front end and was towed from the scene.

The operator has been identified as Carole Dearborn, 69, of Sanford.
