MILTON - Selectmen Andy Rawson and Ryan Thibeault decided on Tuesday to move forward with removing embattled fellow Selectman Mike Beaulieu from the board legally after he ignored their demands for his resignation.

Beaulieu, who drew fire after criticizing the town administrator's work performance in open meeting earlier this month, was asked to resign by Monday but has been scarce at Town Hall since the dustup.

The Rochester Voice made contact with Beaulieu on Monday, but he refused any comment.

Thibeault and Rawson both voted to move forward with the aid of Town Counsel to removed Beaulieu from the board.

Town Administrator Heather Thibodeau, to whom the remarks were pointed during a Nov. 2 budget workshop, said as of early Monday afternoon the town had received no letter of resignation from Beaulieu as had been requested by the board.

Selectmen at a Nov. 6 meeting demanded his resignation as of Monday's close of business, which would have been 4 p.m.

A certified letter demanding such was sent to Beaulieu last week, though The Rochester Voice could not confirm as of Monday whether Beaulieu had received or signed for it.

Beaulieu said during the Nov. 2 workshop that he wanted to change his vote on the town administrator budget from "yea" to "nay" because he was "not comfortable paying $70,000 a year to someone who hasn't really put in a full week's work since she started."

Selectmen's comments that can injure the reputation of town employees and/or private citizens are mandated to be only taken up in executive session per state statute.

Thibodeau told The Rochester Voice she had no inkling that such a condemnation was coming from Beaulieu, and that she was surprised, shocked and saddened by his comments.

Earlier this year Beaulieu stepped down as board chairman after he was said to have made comments regarding sensitive town information that were not authorized to be released in public session.

Soon after he agreed to step down as chair and was replaced by Rawson.
