Selectmen's control of building code fees rejected

LEBANON - About 600 Lebanon voters on Tuesday showed a split decision on whether selectmen should be able to determine many fees charged by the town for various services, giving them free rein on some like dog catching and massage permits, while rejecting their control over fees concerning all building code fees on the ballot as well as mass gatherings and waste disposal facilities.

Other town-issued ballot questions that went down in defeat include one on stud spacing on nonload-bearing walls and implementing a 30-day notice requirement for mass gatherings.

Meanwhile, two questions on which selectmen unanimously agreed - breaking out a wall at town offices to enlarge selectmen's meeting space and enacting a Lebanon Events and Outdoor Festivals ordinance for crowds of 250-500 - were handily approved.

Also approved was a proposal to amend the town's Shoreland Zoning Ordinance to correct discrepancies in the current text and map.
