ROCHESTER - The Franklin Gallery at RiverStones Custom Framing in downtown Dover will host an exhibit during the month of September called "Colorful Memories" featuring the work of Eliot, Maine, artist Gene Galipeau.

Galipeau's creative endeavors extend to more than one media, such as painting and sculpture.

"I draw inspiration for my works from the environment around me, no matter how humble the source," says Galipeau. "Color is one of the fulcrum points for my painting. The other is to bring to my canvasses hidden symbols from everyday objects to evoke latent memories."

The paintings in this exhibit evoke such memories; one of these is Mister Michell's Shell.

"He was a wonderful neighbor who was a widower and he adopted our family, even our cat," says Galipeau. "He was a kind man who on his passing left us a number of his possessions. He was an engineer and knowing that I am an artist, he gave me his prized drafting set."

Galipeau received an associate degree in Art from the Butera School of Fine Art and Design in Boston. He has exhibited his work extensively throughout the Seacoast, including the Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum in Berwick, Maine, Market Street in Portsmouth, York (Maine) Art Association, Seacoast Art Association, Haley Gallery in Kittery, Maine, Kittery Art Association, and The Cliff House in Ogunquit, Maine.

He is a past board member at the York Art Association, Seacoast Art Association and Exeter Art Committee. Gene has also published and illustrated three books, the latest of which is Art Trek (A Road Map for Beginning Artists).

RiverStones Custom Framing and the Franklin Gallery are located at 33 N. Main Street and are open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. For information about the Colorful Memories exhibit and other RiverStones events and services, call (603) 812-1488, or send an e-mail to riverstonescustomframing@gmail.com.
