PORTLAND, Maine - A York man pleaded guilty on Thursday to failing to register as a sex offender in Maine and New Hampshire.

Timothy Moroney, 55, and formerly of Massachusetts, was convicted in 1985 for aggravated rape in Massachusetts. The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act requires convicted sex offenders to register in every jurisdiction in which they reside, work and go to school, and to keep their registration information current at all times.

Between 2005 and 2007, Moroney registered as a sex offender in Massachusetts. In January of 2007, Moroney moved to Maine, but failed to register until February of 2019. In late 2018 and early 2019, Moroney commuted from Maine to New Hampshire to work, but failed to register in New Hampshire.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the York Police Department.
