Snow long nice weather: Plowable white stuff on way

Well, it was nice while it lasted.

The near-record warmth Northern Seacoast residents have enjoyed comes to a blustery end today, with the snowless winter ending fast behind.

A cold shot of arctic air combined with a brisk wind will make it feel like it's in the mid-20s today.

With everyone used to the mild temperatures it'll feel even colder.

Today's cold front will knock down temperatures and pave the way for a fast-accumulating snow beginning early Tuesday morning.

Those heading to work on Tuesday morning should allow for extra time. Flight delays and cancellations are also possible.

Travel may be even more hazardous because ground warmth from recent mild temperatures will keep roads and sidewalks warmer than the air temperature leading to slushy road conditions where there is a bit of snow or sleet accumulation.

The Northern Seacoast is likely to get three to six inches, with snow beginning around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Accuweather models. Snow could accumulate 1-2 inches an inch an hour as the storm gets under way.

Precipitation could turn to rain near the coast, but is expected to remain as snow here till it ends around 1 p.m.

In parts of Northern Maine accumulations could exceed a foot.
