Test drive high jinks lands transient a carload of trouble

Staff reports 10:56 a.m.

ROCHESTER - If you've ever wondered what would happen to you if you took a car for a test drive and didn't return it in a timely fashion, well wonder no more.

A local man did just that on Wednesday and got hit with a Class A felony punishable by up to 15 years in state prison.

According to police and dispatch notes, around 3 p.m. the man told an employee at Auto Images, a Milton Road auto dealership, that he wanted to take a test drive to Milton to show his wife, but never returned.

Around 5 p.m. police were notified and the car was entered as stolen on the National Crime Information Center.

Then around 10:15 p.m. the same officer who took the report saw the car on Waldron Ave off Lafayette Street.

A stop was made and subsequently arrested was Roy M. Fletcher, 36, a local transient. Fletcher was charged with receiving stolen property, a Class A felony. He was released on personal recognizance with an arraignment date later this month.
