Two firefighters injured in two-alarm Milton Mills blaze

MILTON MILLS - Two firefighters were injured Sunday in a Milton Mills fire that destroyed a barn and garage on Applebee Road.

The fire at 214 Applebee Road was called in around 3:35 p.m. with reports that a garage was on fire.

Milton Police were on scene first and reported both an attached garage and nearby barn fully involved extending toward the residence, and when Milton's Engine 6 arrived at 3:40 a second alarm was sounded.

First arriving crews made an aggressive attack on the garage attempting to cut the fire off from the main part of the house. As additional crews arrived and a secure water supply was established, firefighters began to extinguish the massive flames of the two-story antique barn.

The fire was reported knocked down by 4:20 p.m. totally extinguished by around 6:45 p.m.

Mutual aid included help from Wakefield, Middleton, Farmington, Rochester, Somersworth as well as Lebanon, Acton and Berwick, Maine.

Two unidentified firefighters who received minor injuries were treated on scene. There was no civilian injury however there was a loss of fowl, according to a report on the Milton Fire and Rescue Facebook page.

The barn and garage were called a total loss however, the attached house remained undamaged and habitable.

An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
