ROCHESTER - A Somersworth woman was cited on several charges after the car she was driving left the roadway and crashed, injuring herself and a passenger.

The accident occurred around 9:55 a.m. on Thursday in the area of 410 Blackwater Road. Police say a 2008 Volkswagen Passat being operated by Samantha Norton, 30, of Somersworth, was headed south when she tried to pass another vehicle going the same direction and went off the road at a corner striking a tree, fence and rock.

Norton and an adult passenger in the Volkswagen were taken to Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover for injuries sustained in the crash. The extent of their injuries was not released.

There was extensive damage to the vehicle, which had to be towed from the scene. Norton was charged with operating after suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and reckless operation with a court date in January in Rochester District Court.

Both Norton and her passenger were wearing seat belts.
