ROCHESTER -The mother of a 17-year-old Rochester girl who died of a fentanyl overdose has been charged in her daughter's death along with her boyfriend and an acquaintance of the couple.

Jazzmyn Rood, 41, of 11 Barker Court, Rochester, was arrested by Rochester Police detectives around 1 p.m. today and is being held on $10,000 cash bail pending her Friday arraignment.

Rood was charged with felony conspiracy to commit possession of a controlled drug, felony reckless conduct placing another in danger and endangering the welfare of a child/incompetent, a Class A misdemeanor.

The tougher charges, however, fall upon her boyfriend, 41-year-old Mark Ross of 479 Gonic Road, The Riviera Motel, Rm. 117 where Evangelique "Eve" Tarmey died early the morning of Oct. 17.

Ross was charged with felony dispensing of a controlled drug, death resulting, which has a maximum sentence of life in prison. Ross, who made the initial 911 phone call, was also charged with felony conspiracy to commit possession of a controlled drug, felony tampering with witnesses and informants and two counts of falsifying physical evidence.

Meanwhile, Leslie Aberle, 31, of Salisbury, Mass., who was still at-large during a press conference held at 2 p.m. at the Rochester Police Department, was arrested by U.S. Marshals around 2:45 p.m. in Salisbury. She was charged with being a fugitive from justice and expected to be transferred to the Middleton jail pending a court appearance in Newburyport District Court at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Aberle, described by Rochester Police Chief Michael Allen as an acquaintance of the couple, was also charged with dispensing a controlled drug, death resulting as well as felony possession and tampering with witnesses and informants.

Ross was arrested at the Rockingham County jail where he was incarcerated for an unknown offense.

Allen credited a collaborative effort with county, state and federal lawmen, including the DEA, Berwick, Maine, police and the Maine Attorney General's Office.

He said toxicology reports recently received showed Tarmey died of acute fentanyl intoxication.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 30 times more powerful than heroin, Allen said.

Allen said there have been 98 overdoses from either heroin or fentanyl in Rochester this year, with eight of them fatal.

Without getting into the specifics of the case, Strafford County Attorney Tom Velardi said the charges have mostly to do with "the drugs being made available" to Tarmey and the maintenance of the drugs.

Reports all along have put Ross and Rood in the same Riviera Motel room the day she died, but Allen would not comment today on whether Aberle was in the room, too.

He said that will come out at trial.
