WEST LEBANON - The Lebanon Voice has learned that the man seriously injured on Saturday in an incident on the bridge abutment left after the removal of the New Bridge Road bridge dove into shallow water and hit his head on the bottom..

Details of what happened after the injury are still somewhat sketchy as neither Lebanon Rescue public affairs officer Windy Rudnicki nor Lebanon Fire and Rescue Chief Dan Meehan returned several calls and emails between Monday and today.

The man injured, who was in his 40s. was pulled to shore by his son.

Susan Everett, of Everetts Cove Marina, said they were having a party at their house when an employee told them ambulances and police might be coming soon as a man had hurt himself in a fall.

One of Everett's houseguests was a nurse who was able to assess the patient, who said he had no feeling in one of his arms, Everett told The Lebanon Voice on Tuesday.

Milton Police were notified that someone had hurt their head in a fall from a bridge and checked the Garage Street bridge and swimming area at the bottom of Prospect Hill Road only to find they were at the wrong locale.

Two Milton cruisers and a Maine State Trooper eventually responded to the call, along with an ambulance.

The Lebanon ambulance got there about 15-17 minutes after dispatched, Jeff Everett said today.

Susan Everett said some Rescue personnel may have arrived prior to the town's ambulance.

Jeff Everett cut the chain link fence so that first responders could easily access and treat the injured man.

Several minutes later an ambulance and a Rochester first-responder unit could be seen moving with lights on but sirens off toward Frisbie in the area of Market Basket on Milton Road.

The condition of the man is still unknown as his name has not been released due to medical privacy laws.
