LEBANON - Area music legend Ron Jones' condition has been upgraded to stable after being seriously injured in a head-on collision on River Road on Monday night.

The crash occurred about a half-mile south of Oak Hill Road near a curve and hill around 8:30 p.m.

Details are still sketchy, but The Lebanon Voice has learned that Jones was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital after firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate him from his Honda Civic.

Early Tuesday Jones was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston where he was listed today in stable condition, according to a nursing supervisor. On Tuesday he had been listed as critical.

One of the 30-or-so civilians who gathered at the crash site said police impounded Jones' car, but State Police on Wednesday confirmed that was not the case, however, both cars were towed.

The driver of the other car - a Jeep - was a Lebanon resident said to have been unhurt.

Jones' Honda was destroyed.

Accident reconstruction teams were at the scene Monday night trying to determine the cause of the crash.

As of this morning State Police had still not returned calls for comment on the crash.

Jones has been a rock 'n' roll staple of the northern Seacoast for decades. He formerly was frontman of his Ron Jones Band, but had recently been doing solo gigs, including weekly appearances at Gary's Sports Bar in Rochester.
