If it had been a baseball game the crowd would've been on its feet after a walkoff home run, because the Rochester Opera House's production of "Chicago" knocked this one out of the park Thursday night.

Powerful vocals, dazzling dance moves and a small but plucky six-man band helped move this fast-paced musical through its two hours and 10 minute production in a wink of an eye.

The musical is based on a 1926 play written by a reporter about actual criminals and crimes she reported in Chicago and intended to be a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice amid the concept of "celebrity criminal."

The plotline is simple. Beautiful sexy girl kills boyfriend and finds a shady lawyer who defends and routinely gets girls of this ilk off ... so he can, too. Wink. Wink. Oh btw, he'll take cash, too.

Linette Miles, who plays said sexy girl is a firecracker of talent, strutting her diminutive frame and powerful vocals about the stage as the perky and perennially unfaithful Roxie Hart.

She along with sister-in-crime Velma Kelly, played by Seraphina Caligure, vie for the attention and court dates orchestrated by oh-so-suave defense lawyer Billy Flynn, played by Rob Scullin.

Caligure and Scullin match Miles' intensity and vocals and with powerful performances by Sarah Shanahan (buxom prison Matron) and James Weeden (Hart's doting, dorky husband) seal the deal to a tipping point of theatrical magic that will have you thinking you're on Broadway, not Wakefield.

"Chicago" runs through Jan. 31 at the Rochester Opera House.
