ROCHESTER - Rochester Police alerted the public earlier this week about a suspected water testing scam, but late Tuesday night advised the offer to test residents' water is likely legit.

Through further investigation police were able to determine a local company out of Ossipee, N.H., is, in fact, offering free water testing and are currently cold calling residents in Rochester offering these tests.

This company sells water filtration and purification products.

Police, however, said even though they were able to determine these instances were by a known business, they urge residents to use caution if they receive cold calls from individuals offering free or discount rate services.

Residents should ask for company information and research the legitimacy of the company, police advised.
