WEST LEBANON - A West Lebanon man has been charged with illegal dumping on a private road off Dixon Road in West Lebanon.

Thaddeus W. Barbour, 37, formerly of Prospect Hill Road, was charged on Thursday with criminal littering, a Class E crime, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Barbour dumped a large amount of construction debris on the private road off Dixon Road as well as personal trash that was traced back to him, according to Maine Game Warden Carleton Richardson.

The name of a New Hampshire construction company was on the construction debris, which further enabled Richardson to trace the dumping back to Barbour.

Barbour also dumped smaller amounts of construction debris, including shingles near the gated roadway off Sewell Shore Road and in a remote, forested section of West Shore Drive, Richardson said.

Barbour was cited civilly for those two infractions.

Besides the criminal penalties, Barbour also faces losing his driver's license and any recreational licenses for 30 days to a year and must work 100 hours of community service per offense, Richardson said today.

The two civil summonses were for dumping more than 15 pounds of trash per incident.

Barbour pleaded guilty in October to burglary of a Prospect Hill Road residence in March.

As part of the plea deal for the burglary he received a deferred disposition pending his good behavior for a year.

He was also ordered to obtain a substance abuse evaluation within 60 days and follow all recommendations.
