LEBANON - The wife of former Lebanon Fire and EMS chief Dan Meehan, who stayed on with the department after her husband unexpectedly resigned last year, resigned from the department earlier this week.

Windy Rudnicki, who was named Maine Firefighter of the Year in 2017, turned in her own letter of resignation to current Chief Steven Merrill on Monday.

Merrill, who said Rudnicki resigned due to personal reasons, said she was a good EMT and firefighter and an asset to the department.

"We all wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors," he said.

Meehan resigned on Nov. 15, declining at the time to answer why when asked by The Rochester Voice.

Meehan stoked controversy in the town soon after he was hired in January 2015, first because he was not from Lebanon but Rochester, N.H., and secondly when he was allowed to use the Command Vehicle to drive back and forth from his Rochester home.
