ROCHESTER - With a cast of 63, the delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale for one weekend next month at the Rochester Opera House.

Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Doolittle) and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth. Performances run June 10 at 7:30pm, June 11 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm, and June 12 at 2:00pm. Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka (Scott Richardson) as he stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket (Daizy Spear), who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather, Grandpa Joe (Dennis Perry). The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory ... or suffer the consequences.

Special event

Children can meet Willy Wonka and his Oompa Loompa's on June 11 & 12 at noon. Tour the factory, receive a bag of candy, and have your picture taken with Willy Wonka! Admission to this special event is $10 (does not include ticket to the show), and sales are limited to 100 guests each day. Ccall 603-686-0135 to reserve a spot.
