WMUR recognized for launching Facebook newscasts

MANCHESTER - WMUR earned a regional Edward R. Murrow award for Excellence in Innovation, station officials announced on Friday.

The recognition comes specifically for the station's effort to launch Facebook live newscasts. These six- to seven-minute newscasts run weekday mornings and are focused on news that broke overnight and key stories developing the rest of the day. Having won this regional award, WMUR is now eligible to win a national Edward R. Murrow award later this year.

WMUR's team was also honored with 17 regional Emmy Award nominations for work on news content, New Hampshire Chronicle, promotion, and set and music design. The content being recognized includes State of Addiction reporting on the opioid crisis, the Home at Last holiday adoption special and WMUR's New Hampshire Idol talent contest.

This year's winners will be announced by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Boston / New England Chapter in June.
