Your Voice: When it comes to Christmas shopping, don't forget downtown

Rochester Main Street is supporting the Shop Small Saturday initiative on November 25th, encouraging the public to support local small businesses rather than large big box retailers this holiday season. Exploring our local businesses can result in more thoughtful and unique gifts for the people on our shopping lists. In addition, dollars spent at locally-owned businesses tend to remain in the community longer and support our local economy.

Rochester Main Street encourages spending the holiday season in downtown Rochester for shopping, dining, services, and entertainment. Several downtown businesses are offering discounts and promotions as part of the Shop Small Saturday event.

Shop Small Saturday was started by American Express several years ago to encourage shoppers to make purchases at locally owned businesses during the start of the holiday shopping season. Rochester Main Street participates as a Neighborhood Champion to help support our local businesses and encourage this national movement. The public is welcome to visit the Rochester Main Street office to pledge support of local businesses, and receive a complimentary Shop Small tote bag.
