Northern Seacoast residents were digging out today after what could have been one of the ugliest storms of the century.
Additionally, many remain in the dark after widespread outages in Maine where almost 9,000 in York County were still without power this afternoon.
Lebanon, Maine, was the hardest hit with almost 1,000 CMP customers still without power.
In New Hampshire, the outages were less severe, but Dover still has 314 households in the dark, followed by Barrington with 294 and Milton with 173.
Much of the disruptions were caused by trees and branches laden with heavy clumps of snow that tore down utility lines.
This writer noticed that usually when a branch is drooping due to heavy amounts of snow, a swipe with a shovel will send it spraying to the ground and the branch will spring upward, but with this snow, it was so saturated with water - then froze overnight - that you had to literally claw at the snow with your hands to break it up.
The area basically didn't get six inches of snow, it got six inches of slush.
Thankfully, the weather is expected to be storm free the rest of the week with temps in the mid-40s to mid-50s through Saturday.
