ROCHESTER - A Gonic man was arrested on Friday in an assault earlier this month of an infant in his care.

Ryan Hughes, 23, of 67 Ledgeview Drive, surrendered to Rochester Police after being notified of a warrant for his arrest.

An investigation into the incident began on July 12 when Rochester Police Detectives responded to Frisbie Memorial Hospital to assist state DCYF officials with an investigation concerning injuries suffered by a four-month-old female.

From the investigation police and DCYF learned the infant potentially had a fractured clavicle, or collarbone. After conducting interviews with the individuals whose care the infant was under at the time of the injury police executed the arrest warrant on Hughes, who was charged with one count of first degree assault, a Class B felony. The charge alleges he recklessly caused serious bodily injury to the infant.

Hughes was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail pending an arraignment next month.
