Abia Dewhirst ... enjoyed flower gardening; at 94

DOVER - Abia Dewhirst died on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021 at Watson Fields in Dover, at the age of 94. She was born on Nov. 5, 1927, on Dane Street in Kennebunk, Maine and was the daughter of Don Chamberlin, Sr. and Edna Lank.

Edna was a graduate of Kennebunk High School. She lived most of her adult life in Dover, raising three children as a single parent. She was employed for many years as an administrative assistant with the City of Dover Recreation Department.

She was a devoted parent who spent countless hours participating in her children's activities, while at the same time, giving them the space to grow as individuals. In her later years, she greatly enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, taking trips "down" to Maine to visit the ocean, following the ups and downs of the stock market, and tending the flower garden at her home. Fiercely independent until the end, she renewed her driver's license and was still driving at the age of 90.

Edna was predeceased by her first husband, Charles "Jack" Twombly, and her second husband, William Dewhirst, Sr.; her two brothers, Don Chamberlin, Jr. and Theodore Chamberlin; and her sister, Louise McAllister.

She is survived by her sister, Janice Major of Scarborough, Maine; her daughter, Andrea Boulanger (and husband David Boulanger), of Hinesburg, Vt.; her twin sons, William Dewhirst (and wife Patricia Dewhirst), of Hanover, and Robert Dewhirst, of Weare; her four grandchildren, Matthew Boulanger (and wife Kate Nugent) of South Burlington, Vt., Nicole Dyhrman (and husband Hans Dyhrman) of Williston, Vt., Regan Dewhirst of Waterbury Center, Vt., and Madison Dewhirst of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
