MILTON - Anne Garnett, 96, of Riverside Rest Home, formerly of St. James Avenue in Milton, died on Thursday, October 15, 2015.
She was born February 22, 1919 in Cripple Creek, Colo., the daughter of Dutch immigrants Jan and Grietje (Margaret) Blaauw. She grew up on farms in Pittsfield and Grafton, N.H., and left home after the eighth grade to attend Bristol High School. She lived in Bristol with "Mom and Pop" Allard and their three children who were always regarded as her "foster family". She was valedictorian of her class, and later worked her way through Plymouth Normal School. After earning her teaching credentials, she taught third grade students in Enfield, N.H., Northfield, Vt., Somersworth, Rochester and Milton, N.H.
She married William Garnett in Grafton on September 2, 1944 and together they raised two sons, Bill and Bob.
Following her retirement from teaching she worked for many years as a volunteer at the NH Farm Museum in Milton.
In her later years she enjoyed the many cards that her friends and neighbors would send at the holidays. The family is grateful for those kind acts.
She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, Cornelius and Jacob Blaauw, and her grandson Nathan Garnett. She is survived by her sons William of Nottingham and his wife Jane, Robert of Milton, granddaughter Sarah Robinson of Rollinsford and her husband Alan, two great-grandsons, Christopher and Lucas Robinson, nieces and nephews, and her "foster sister" Marion Sawyer of Pembroke.
