SANFORD, Maine - The manhunt for a Sanford fugitive described as armed and dangerous by federal authorities came to an end on Friday.
The FBI announced that Joshua Patrick Weldon, 26, was taken into custody around 3 p.m. in Sanford.
On Aug. 13, Weldon was arrested by the FBI in Alfred for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. He was released on $10,000 bail, with the conditions that he must live at a sober house.
When Weldon failed to report to the sober house on Oct. 24 and to a scheduled appointment at the U.S. Probation Office on Oct. 25 an arrest warrant was issued.
Sanford Police said they spotted Weldon driving on Nov. 6 and tried to stop him, but he fled at high speeds before fleeing from the vehicle on foot.
While a canine team was tracking Weldon, the FBI says he was able to get a ride to a Springvale apartment where he smashed the glass of the front door after he was refused entry.
The FBI had offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his location and arrest.
