Rochester Voice editor and publisher Harrison Thorp accepted the awards on behalf of the online newspapaper that has served the citizens of Rochester for more than 14 years.
The Rochester Voice took second place in Crime/Courts reporting with his series of stories on the snow plow shootings on Summer Street in April of 2024.
The digital daily also took home second in the highly coveted Community Service Award for Thorp's series of stories and editorials regarding the staggering and unfair increase on Rochester mobile homes assessments and taxes.
"To get this kind of recognition, especially in the Community Service Award categotry, which is given to the media outlet that seeks to champion the rights of the readers it serves, is very gratifying," said Thorp.
"We are always honored and so very thankful when The Rochester Voice is singled out for its pursuit of pubic service," added Rochester Voice President Martha T. Soto-Galicia.
The Rochester Voice also garnered a first place Community Service Award in 2022 for its series of stories on the City of Rochester's flawed purchase of land for a potential third fire station in East Rochester.
