CHARLOTTE, N.C. - David Alan Goodwin, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 20, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by his family.
Dave was born on March 3, 1952, in San Diego, California, to Earle and Virginia Goodwin. He was raised in Dover, New Hampshire, and was a proud graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Dartmouth College, Class of 1974.
Dave married Jan (Bozich) Goodwin in 1979. Together they built a life and raised a family that remained at the center of his life.
In recent years, Dave and Jan relocated to Davidson, North Carolina, where their immediate family was close by and they were able to spend more time together.
He is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, his beloved wife, Jan Goodwin; his son, Bryan Goodwin, and wife Cara; his daughter, Sara (Goodwin) Baxter, and husband, LtCol Cory Baxter, USMCR; and his three cherished grandsons, Pace Baxter, Luca Goodwin, and Reed Baxter.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Earle and Virginia Goodwin, and his brother, Barry Goodwin. He is also survived by his sister, Marsha Goodwin Ouellette, and her husband Ron; his brothers, Wayne Goodwin and wife Mary, Bryan Goodwin and wife Chris, and Kevin Goodwin; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Dave was an entrepreneur who founded Northeast Printing Services, starting the business from his home and later operating it in Dover for many years. In retirement, he especially enjoyed hands-on projects in the New Hampshire mountains, including helping build the Dartmouth Class of 1974 Bunkhouse at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge alongside fellow alumni and volunteers, a craft and setting he truly loved.
Dave had a lifelong love of skiing and tennis, both as a player and as a coach. For decades, he shared those passions with others, including many years coaching at St. Thomas Aquinas. He loved teaching, competing, and helping young athletes improve.
Dave approached life with curiosity, determination, and a fiercely independent streak. He was a problem-solver who liked to understand how things worked and was never much for sitting on the sidelines. Whether he was building his business, coaching an athlete, tackling a project, or facing the health challenges of his later years, Dave was always looking for a way forward. He was direct, had a great sense of humor, and was never shy about letting you know what he thought.
Above all, Dave loved his family and loved having everyone around. He was happiest spending time with Jan, his children and grandchildren, usually with Timber, his Golden Retriever, close by. He loved being outside, working around the yard, and any excuse to get on his John Deere tractor.
