Attempted abduction was false report, police say

Staff Reports

SANFORD, Maine - Police are now saying that two young girls who said someone had tried to abduct them on Tuesday made up the story.

The two 10-year-olds called police around 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday and said they were in the vicinity of High and Bates streets when a black man in a black van stopped, got out of his vehicle and grabbed one of the girls’ shirts, only letting go after the other girl yelled at him to stop.

Sanford Police told of the false report in a press release earlier this afternoon.
