The Northern Seacoast can usually expect a couple of heat waves every summer, but we may get two in a row this time, with temps ranging into or hovering near the 90s through Wednesday.

The long stretch of hot and dry weather coincides with news of an emerging drought that was announced by state officials on Thursday. In fact there is no substantial forecast of rain in the foreseeable future with only a chance of a spotty shower Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Heat waves are defined as three days of 90 or above temps. Here we'll be flirting with seven straight days of such.

Today highs is expected to be around 92 in Rochester, followed by 91 on Saturday, 90 on Sunday, 89 on Monday, 90 on Tuesday, and 93 on Wednesday. By that time Thursday's high of 86 may feel quite comfortable.

More pleasant high temps back in the 70s won't be for at least two weeks.

Meanwhile, humidity and heat indexes will trend upward, making for dangerous conditions for many including the elderly.

People are urged to use caution in partaking in strenuous manual labor or exercise during the late morning and afternoon hours when the heat will be most intense. The best time for such activity, as well as any outdoor Father's Day activites will be early in the morning or during the evening.
